Mother’s Day: A reflection for May

Mothers are often seen as the heart of a family—the person we turn to for love, care, and guidance. Or perhaps the one we return to, time and again, to feel grounded and whole.

This May, as we celebrate Mother’s Day, I find myself thinking not just of biological mothers, but of all the people who mother. The ones who hold us with love that is unconditional and constant, no matter where we are, what we do, or who we become.

Sometimes, this person is a parent. Other times, it’s a neighbour, an aunt, a mentor, or a friend’s mum who stepped in with care and kindness. The people who shape us don’t always share our DNA, but they often share a desire for us to grow strong, live fully, and be happy.

No one is perfect—but the intention to love and nurture leaves a lasting impact.

This month, I hope you find a way to connect with or remember the person who has mothered you—whoever they may be. And if you’re someone who offers that kind of care to others—formally or quietly, professionally or personally—may you feel appreciated and seen.

For some, this month may bring up tender memories. If you’re missing someone who once played that nurturing role in your life—whether a mother or someone who cared for you in other ways—I truly understand. Grief and gratitude can coexist, and it’s okay to feel both.

As we reflect on the care and support we’ve received, it’s also important to take time for ourselves. Whether through personal reflection or support from others, it’s okay to ask for help when you need it. Becoming More Life Coaching offers a space for you to rediscover your own strengths and find the balance you deserve.
